Originally settled in 1894, pioneers built a homestead here using locally sourced wood and corrugated metal. Over time, the area thrived as a farming and ranching hub, guided by the Bentley family’s stewardship. Today, this legacy is preserved through meticulous restoration efforts. The original homestead house, a 1921 Victorian farmhouse, a prairie barn, and a late-1800s-style outhouse are being carefully restored as part of the Independence Community’s Homestead Park Collection. This thoughtful blend of preservation and progress allows residents to connect with the land’s storied past while enjoying modern living in a conservation-focused community.
