There’s something special about fall in Elbert County. As the temperatures cool and the leaves begin to change, the community calendar fills with fun opportunities.
For residents of Independence, many of these fall activities are just a quick drive away in Elizabeth, Colorado, and throughout Elbert County. Whether you’re looking for a Saturday morning market, a family-friendly Halloween event, or a chance to explore the area’s history, there’s plenty to look forward to this season. Here’s a quick look at what’s coming up:
Shop Local at the Elbert County Marketplace
The Elbert County Marketplace at Casey Jones Park Pavilion is a great place to spend a fall Saturday morning. The marketplace brings together local farmers, ranchers, food producers, artisans, crafters, and other vendors, making it easy to discover something new while supporting small businesses in the community.
The 2026 fall schedule includes:
- September 5 and 19
- October 3, 17, and 31
- November 7, 14, 21, and 28
The market is open from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at 4189 S. Highway 86 in Elizabeth.
Fall is an especially fun time to visit. You can expect a vibrant assortment of seasonal products, handmade goods, baked treats, and other items that make great additions to your home or gifts for the upcoming holiday season.
Take a Step Back in Time in Downtown Elizabeth
If you enjoy local history, mark your calendar for the Historic Downtown Walk & Talk on September 26. The Town of Elizabeth is hosting the 12th annual event, offering residents and visitors a chance to learn more about the unique history and character of the area’s historic downtown.
It’s a great reminder that one of the best things about living in a growing community is being surrounded by places that have stories to tell. Grab a coffee, bring the family, and spend a fall morning exploring Elizabeth. The walk begins at 9:30 am, and a wagon will be available for those who need it. You’re welcome to stay afterward for the complimentary lunch!
